Eeli Aalto (1947)
Gallows Cliff - Oil, 30x20cm, 1947.
(born in Vyborg, Finland, 1931) writes about his painting: "I was inspired to paint this picture by Arnold Böcklin whose painting entitled The Island of Death fascinated me like computer games and videos attract modern youth. I also drew pictures of film stars in a blue-covered notebook. I destroyed the notebook (which I repent bitterly) when I thought that it was not fine art. Laureen Bacall had emerged as my ideal among women. Later when I happened to meet Humphey Bogart in Paris in the early 50's, I could barely refrain from asking something about Bacall."
